How to choose yarn
The yarn intended for knitting products, which will then be felted in the washing machine, should consist 100% of sheep’s wool. However, in some cases, mixed yarns with a high content of wool or alpaca are also used. If the item should be as soft as possible after felting, it is recommended to choose a thinner or not very strong knitting yarn. Of yarn not specifically designed for processing in a washing machine, it is best to first bind and process the sample. It will not be superfluous to look at the yarn label: if hand washing is recommended, then the yarn falls off normally in the washing machine at a temperature of 40-60 ° C, but if the wash symbol in the washing machine is present on the label, this means that the yarn does not fall off.
Pure sheep wool meets all the requirements necessary for knitting and processing in a washing machine. For small things (hats, bags, various accessories and all sorts of useful or funny little things) it is better to choose a thick one-color, or multi-color section dyeing, or melange yarn (the length of the thread in the skein is 50 m). Knitting with such yarn is best knitted or crocheted No. 7-8.
For knitting and subsequent felting of fashionable, stylish products, a warmer yarn (thread length in a skein of 100 m) and knitting needles or hook No. 4 are recommended.
Special yarn for felting in the washing machine is sold, it is available in a large assortment of various series. So, the Wash + Filz-it series! – This is a plain yarn designed for knitting or crocheting No. 8; fine Uni series – thin yarn for knitting needles or hook No. 3-4; multicolor, fine multicolor and stripcolor series – yarn with fashionable color effects.
In addition, single-color Filzi yarn and multi-color Filzi Color (for both knitting needles or hook No. 8) are produced, Filzi Fine – thin yarn for knitting needles or hook No. 3-4. The Filz-WolleLinie231 series includes very beautiful plain yarn, section dyeing yarn (Design Color) and melange yarn for knitting needles and hook No. 8; finer yarn Linie 31 Filz-Wolle 100 is designed for knitting and crocheting No. 3-4.
What to use knitting needles and hooks
For large, heavy items, it is recommended to use circular knitting needles so that the center of gravity of the product remains in the middle. Hollow models, such as arm ruffles, are best knit on stocking needles. In any case, always the preference is given to the thickest knitting needles indicated on the label – then when washing, the shrinkage of the yarn will be more uniform. When crocheting, its number must necessarily correspond to the number indicated on the yarn label.
How to determine the desired size
It is never possible to accurately predict how much percent will be shrinkage when felting, as this depends on many factors, in particular on the density of knitting. Experience shows that with a total shrinkage of approximately 70%, 40% falls on the length and 30% on the width. If necessary, the washing can be repeated to achieve the desired result. But keep in mind that the end result will be a knitted product on which individual loops are already almost indistinguishable.
The total shrinkage, as we have said, is 70%. In order to determine as accurately as possible the required size of a knitted and felted product, its desired width or length (which should be after washing), multiply by 100 and divide by 70 – you will get the size that should be connected.
Example. The final width of the product should be 35 cm, the final length – 50 cm. Shrinkage in width is always 30%. The width of the knitted product (before washing) is calculated by the formula: 35 x 100: 70 cm = 50 cm. Shrinkage in length is always 40%. The length of the product before washing is determined by the formula: 50 x 100: 60 cm = 83 cm.
What and how to wash
For washing (felting in the washing machine) any detergent is suitable, but it is better to use liquid detergents.
Knitted items intended for felting in the washing machine are recommended to be washed together with linen (towels, pillowcases, etc.), because during friction, the stall process is more efficient. “Washing” rubber balls help a lot, which also helps to save detergents, since when washing “beat off” the laundry.
Before performing any model, you should tie and wash the sample. If the sample is smaller, you should dial more loops or knit on thicker knitting needles (or a thicker crochet). If the pattern is bigger, you should dial fewer loops or knit on thinner knitting needles (or a thinner crochet).

When adding, pick up and knit a transverse thread between 2 p. Of persons. cross As soon as 85 points are in operation, close all the loops.

Knit faces. smoothness, while in all directions, shift each color by 1 p. to the right. On the wrong side of the work, the colors should be the same as on the front. After 46 cm from the set edge, knit with black thread. After 49 cm from the set edge for the pen, close the middle 20 p., In the next row, dial 32 p. And knit faces on all 54 p. stitch. After 52 cm from the set edge, close all the loops. Assembly: sew parts of the bag and sew the bottom to them from the inside. Crochet the edge of the bag with black thread 1 p. Attention! To maintain the shape of the product after washing, pull on something and then dry. The most effective way is to make a template out of the moisture-proof material, pull a knitted product on it and wash it in this form.
